First wild trouts
rainbow trout - on my own fly :) -

my fly

Stormy day need some special technique. First of all I have to wait for tide. Secondly at time of big water (about 3,5h!...) I must to setup something which let me send fly on good distance through strong wind. When level was nearly come back to his normal high I start with 14,5ft rod and RIO Spey SH Inter tip 10/11 AFTM. Heavy tackle for heavy weather. In fact this length of rod can keep your leader up of high beach behind you and save flys while overhead casting. Because of nice - probably - trout, which I lost few weeks ago I tying some light leader 8lb for trouts.

weather

First cast was not very successful, but just after river make strong current on middle my line can swim nice across additionally I change fly for some more silver and bum! At about half a way of drift something latch on to my own fly!? And that start to bend my rod time after time - that's was a fish :) And in fact it was very nice and very fat, full of insects, wild browne of 13in long :))) Because of weight and big belly it doesn't fight strong, but to the end and give me some problems on bank. Despite some time of "reanimation" it has to go to my bag :]

brown trout

Next cast. I move down. And some small beauty escape of fly in effective jump. My fly works great, all I need now is just keep going. Few cast at different angle and a bit down the river. Nearly place where I had my big "unless" brown. Few cast and bang - next fish on. Nice fight and few run away. A bit shorter but more powerful "spoter" :) At company - for a moment - with first one got some flash of camera and go back to Lune.

brown trouts

It's really nice day, but tired of heavy rod and fight with wind. After fish best part of Skerton Beat I go for bike and turn at Heysham about 3PM. I go to my tying kit to make more copy of this fantastic fly and fill up all new box by this so successful pattern.

When I check water temp. at 3:30 it has about 50F - that was cold water from sea.

brown trouts

After some bites I change to bigger, silver fly with long hair wing. Cast at 70 degree. Swim down 2/3 bites and automatically quick reaction - fish on :) After first runs I start to think it's grilse. Strong kick in current and again? Nearly me and what I see - it's a browne. Very nice and big one brown trout :) Fly go out without my help and fish go back like motor boat with splash on surface :))) Yea - I like it :) After next 1 hour everything got quiet just small ones shown down the pool. Nearly 8PM time to go. Water warm up to 57F! That's not temp for salmonids. 1 record by day - it's enough :)
